Blogging for fun or profit

This post is a follow-up to my blog post about AI and its impact on the Internet as we know it, that I published on Wide Angle Analytics.

A few days back, I created a new Chrome extension – Somebody Stop Me!. I wanted a quick and easy way to tell me off for wasting time on social media.

The first thing I wanted after getting it published on the Chrome Web Store was to go to Twitter and share it with others. This realization hit me so hard.

Here I was, creating an extension to get me off social media, only to run back to post there.

In a way, it is only natural to want to share with others. In a normal world, that would be a great way to invite others to use the fruits of my labor.

But modern social media is a horrible place. Mark Zuckerberg is making sure we are drowning in AI slop, while Elon Musk is turning everyone into Nazi incels.

And lastly, we have no ownership over Twitter. It is just one walled garden after another in an Internet enshittification trend.

Sharing is Caring

But I still want to share. I want to let others know. I also realized that I have other things to share about. Things that don’t neatly fit into the limited space of brief, 2-second attention window micro-posts.

I want to share about things I find interesting.

And I don’t want to push it onto anyone.

Hence, the blog.

If you stumble upon it and find it interesting, great! Found it boring and left? Your choice! No algorithm will push it your way any longer.

I am free to write and publish.

You are free to read or reject it.

As it should be.

It Really is the Natural Next Choice

I have been writing various articles for the Wide Angle blog for the last three odd years. Some posts were mandatory to get noticed in search results. But many were simply me sharing about the product I built and am proud of, or about privacy, responsible online marketing, and technology.

Blogging is still fun.

Whether it is just for fun or for profit.
